Arnold -- It’s outrageous! Right now, the Obama administration is setting the stage for America’s next offshore oil disaster.

Even as millions of gallons of oil from BP’s botched Deepwater Horizon drilling operation pollute the Gulf and threaten the people and environment of the Gulf of Mexico, the administration has so far failed to act to protect Alaska’s fragile and remote Chukchi Sea -- prime habitat for America's threatened polar bears -- from a similar catastrophe.

To help prevent the next drilling disaster and protect the lives of our polar bears, Defenders has joined with our friends at CREDO Action in a new campaign to stop harmful offshore drilling in this sensitive area -- but we need your help to win!

Last month, a federal court in Alaska found that the Bush administration violated the law when it approved oil and gas leasing in Alaska's Chukchi sea without sufficient information and analysis about risks to the Arctic environment. A different court found similar flaws with Arctic drilling plans in 2009.

Yet, President Obama's administration has so far failed to revisit protections for the Chukchi - arctic waters off Alaska's coast that are home to some of America's remaining polar bears and key to the survival of Inupiat Eskimo communities.

Please urge President Obama to take action now to save polar bears, bowhead whales and other wildlife - and the Alaska Native communities that rely on their health to survive - by preventing the next offshore drilling disaster.

The Obama administration has asked the court in Alaska to allow activities that would pave the way for drilling to proceed, potentially jeopardizing an area key to the survival of not only polar bears, but also bowhead whales, Pacific walrus and other wildlife.

The Gulf oil disaster clearly demonstrates the terrible risks of offshore drilling:

* Sea birds coated in oil and unable to fly;
* Seas turtles poisoned by toxic waters; and
* Wildlife habitat fouled by oil.

And it could be much worse in the Chukchi.

Thirty years after the Exxon Valdez disaster, there is still no effective, proven technology to clean up oil spills in broken sea ice conditions in Arctic waters, such as those found in the Chukchi Sea... a problem that could doom rare Arctic whales, threatened polar bears and other wildlife to extinction and destroy Inupiat communities if drilling proceeds.

Help stop the next offshore drilling disaster! Tell President Obama to pull the illegal leases sold in the Chukchi Sea and halt seismic testing in the Arctic this summer.

The courts and scientists have all said that more information is needed about the Arctic environment before we even consider drilling in its ice covered seas that are cloaked in darkness most of the year.

The recent court decision provides the perfect opportunity for the Obama administration to take that time and really make sure we can protect the environment - before we jeopardize this fragile place, its wildlife and the people who count on it for the survival of their communities.

To avoid another catastrophic offshore drilling disaster like the one now threatening the communities and wildlife of the Gulf of Mexico - and another Exxon-Valdez-like oil spill - we need a responsible approach to protecting the Chukchi.

The Valdez spill decimated fisheries and continues to impact local wildlife and Alaskan communities to this day. And the Gulf oil disaster has killed thousands of animals and will impact the region's fragile ecosystems for years to come.

Alaska native communities, polar bears... and the rest of America deserve better. Please send President Obama a message right now.

No one knows who "Jim the Election Guy" is, but today, we'd like to introduce you to Jim the Actual Voter. Actually, we'd like to introduce you to three of them. All are named Jim, all actually live in the 6th Congressional District, and all are sick and tired of Michele Bachmann's nonsense. See what they have to say about it:

Yesterday, Republican John Boehner escalated his campaign to become the next Speaker of the House. He gave a "major speech" in Cleveland -- much-hyped by his staffers, who told reporters that this, finally, was the moment when the GOP would introduce its economic agenda.

After all the build-up, all we heard was another list of what Republicans are against.

Every supposedly new idea was more of the same. He wants to extend the Bush tax cuts for the rich. He wants to repeal health insurance reform. He opposes clean-energy legislation.

Nothing he offered would move America forward.

The only thing Boehner seems serious about is raising campaign cash. After the speech, he told reporters that he's prepared to help Republicans spend $50 million to win back Congress.

We can already guess what he'll do: tap the special interests. He'll work the phones and call in every favor. He'll lean on the big-dollar donors and the corporate lobbyists.

Democrats have a different plan. We're asking supporters like you to make a contribution to the By the People Fund. If we can collect 3 million grassroots donations, we can compete with the Republicans in every race. And so far, that's exactly what we're doing.

Can you chip in $3 or more to help keep up the pace?

On Tuesday, Boehner said his party deserves to win because it's time to "put the grown-ups in charge." What a bunch of nonsense.

The last time he and Republicans were in charge, they took a $237 billion budget surplus and transformed it into a $1.3 trillion deficit. They doubled the national debt and drove the economy into a ditch.

Under Boehner, this country would go right back to the failed Republican policies that cost us 8 million jobs, left the middle class in economic peril, and shifted our tax burden to the middle class by giving $100,000+ tax breaks to the wealthy.

To make sure that doesn't happen, we're planning to outwork the GOP in every district with a competitive race. We will knock on doors, make calls, and build the case for Democrats across the country.

But we're talking about the most aggressive voter turnout campaign for a midterm election in history. We need your help to get it done.

But with Idaho officials still seeking to kill hundreds of wolves, Montana likely to follow1 and Wyoming officials still pursuing a deadly shoot-on-sight wolf management plan2, our work to ensure a long-term recovery for these magnificent animals is far from over.

There used to be a series call The F B I; WITH Eram zimmulas JR that showed how the Fbi worked and the hero's they are puting bank robbers; embezzers and other crimals in jail. i have a quick question for the F B I agent's in my adance out there wouldn't corperateism be concidered fraud or embezzelment to give millions of dollars to a CEO who's company lost money? to the point that the company fails; i'm not pretenting to know the law; i'm just a paper pusher. but it's seem weird to me that kind of conduct isn't illeagle in some way. to blint the investers out of a fair return 0n there money and closing down causing job loses.

On March 7th, 1965, 600 of us lined up to walk from Selma to Montgomery, to march for voting rights.

When we tried to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge over the Alabama River, we were met by state troopers. They attacked us with tear gas, bullwhips, and nightsticks.

It became known as Bloody Sunday, and the national outcry over the brutality that day led to the enactment, exactly 45 years ago today, of the Voting Rights Act.

The progress we've made since then is remarkable.

But the expansion of voting rights for millions did not happen overnight. It was the product of a continued struggle, by many people, over many years.

And just as change did not come easily then, it does not come easily now.

Discrimination still exists in America -- its effects can be as harmful as they were decades ago. And we can always become a better, more just society.

Two years ago, this movement -- led by Barack Obama -- brought millions of people into the political process for the first time.

I'm told that many of you are working hard now to get as many as possible of those folks -- and others from across the country who are with us in these fights -- to the polls this year.

It's an important effort, and the legacy of the fight for the Voting Rights Act is that it is not only our right to vote, and to help others do so -- it is our duty.

Can I count on you to help out between now and the elections in November?

When I was a child, I tasted the bitter fruits of racial discrimination -- and I did not like it.

That was what spurred me to act. In those early days, we sacrificed our very selves for our rights as Americans. But we never gave up.

And now barriers that kept an entire people from full participation in this country have been removed.

No longer are people who look like me met with violence when we register to vote.

No longer is the idea that an African American could become president just a dream.

We live in a better world, a better country.

But our work is not complete. We cannot wait for someone else to make change.

We must all do it. You must do it. I must do it.
