Dear Arnold,

This week Congress is debating how to reduce our deficit, prioritize spending and create a forward-looking economy that provides hardworking families a path to success.

These decisions need to reflect our priorities as Americans – fairness, compassion and accountability.

Yet a spending bill being voted on Friday in the House would undermine efforts to hold the big banks, credit card companies and corporations accountable. They’d make it harder for you to get a fair deal, and could even put your family’s safety at risk. Worse, these changes don't make a dent in our deficit, but they do give big business exactly what it wants!

Tell your Congressman not to dismantle the safeguards that give you and your family a fair shake!

The House Appropriations bill would gut the new financial watchdog created for us. This new watchdog has one job – to hold banks, mortgage companies, and credit card operators accountable. But by slashing in half the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s budget, the House majority would deliver a final victory to a banking industry that has gotten off virtually scott-free after imploding our economy.

And it’s not just the banks that would benefit under the bill. Another provision would prevent new rules from going into effect that would keep the giant telecom companies from controlling how you use the Internet.

Your family’s safety is also on the table. The bill would shut down a new online database designed to let Americans report dangerous products to safety officials and to each other. The database has already been built and launched. The money is already spent. But manufacturers want this information to go away, no matter how valuable it might be.

Tell your Representative to vote "NO" and come back with a bill that reflects your priorities.

If you've ever pulled out your credit card to buy a product for your family, bought a toy for your kids, or downloaded an app to your smart-phone, you have a stake in this vote. Please take a moment to send your message, and forward this email to others who might join you.

Sincerely,
Kathy Mitchell
